Seven Impactful Sessions | St. Louis Photographer

While I reflect on the last seven years of Rare Vision Photography, I want to share seven impactful sessions that have been the most memorable to me.

Although I had Rare Vision as a side hustle, I left my corporate job in marketing and public relations to stay home in 2018. It was exciting, but also terrifying. I didn’t know what to expect, how long my business would last or what adventures it would take me on.

1. Front Steps Project – 2020

Nearly two years into my adventure with Rare Vision and the pandemic brought a screaming halt to my business. As a photographer who captures moments for client, it’s pretty essential to be in-person. I wasn’t sure how to navigate it all until I stumbled upon a project other photographers had jumped onto, The Front Steps Project. Capturing brief moments of some of my clients outside their homes brought delight and fostered a togetherness in the midst of isolation. Read more here

2. Military Homecoming – 2021

One of the joys I have as a photographer is capturing moments that are near to my clients hearts. I teamed up with Operation: Love Reunited to provide homecoming and deployment photos for families. One of the memorable ones was during COVID when I captured a family reunited at Lambert airport after being apart for 198 days. (Although Operation: Love Reunited is no longer an active nonprofit, I still provide these sessions to military families.) Read more here

3. A Birth Story – 2023

It takes just the right client to allow someone to be a fly on the wall in their delivery room to capture the moments and literally bare all. Documenting a birth is one of the most amazing things I have done to date with my photography. Although I’ve captured several birth stories now, the first time I documented a birth I caught the passion of this realm. It’s something I hold near and dear to my heart. It lights me up and gives me goosebumps to document the miracle of birth. Read more here

4. Dress Up Session – 2024

I have wanted to capture moments of my daughter in my wedding dress since she was little bitty and felt that her age was perfect to do it! For this special session, we went to COCOS where I let her play and dance in the dress as I documented the moments. It was something special I hope we’ll cherish as she continues to grow and one day maybe get it out for her daughter to play in. Read more here

5. A Special Senior Session – 2024

Capturing a senior session is fun and brings life. They are eager to graduate and move into adulthood. I’ve known Emily since she was in kindergarten, attending a Sunday afternoon ministry I help lead. Seeing her grow, change, and become the woman she is today was special and when she asked me to capture her session I was honored. Not only was it someone special in my life, but her session exuded edginess which got me out of my creative bubble in a good way. Read more here

6. An International Session – 2024

Not everyday do you get asked to capture moments of a family in Germany. My dear friend and her family had moved to Germany and asked while I was there if I could take some photos for them. “Of course!” was my response. Capturing moments of the Schislers in the cool downtown area of Duisburg was one of the exciting moments as a photographer. Read more here

My first wedding – 2025

While I quickly learned capturing a full day of wedded bliss wasn’t something that filled me up, I avoided weddings prior to this one. I stopped in my tracks when my long-time client asked me to capture her big day. Not only was it with a wonderful client, but it was also an intimate ceremony and only needed my services for a few hours. This was perfect! I was elated that I was able to capture the ceremony and blending of two families this year. While I won’t be capturing large lavish weddings anytime soon, smaller and classy weddings like this might just be what I was made for. Read more here

Well there you have it, seven impactful sessions. As I reflect on all the moments I’ve captured, I realize how blessed I am to have amazing clients who welcome me into their lives, homes, ceremonies, parties, joyous occasions and some hard ones too. Thank you for allowing me to be your photographer.
