What’s Saving My Life – Summer 2026 | St. Louis Photographer

Summer is in full mode and with it comes a lot of fun experiences that are often on repeat from the year before. Author Barbara Brown Taylor asks and answers the question, “What’s saving my life right now?” Kendra Adachi and Emily P. Freeman, two authors and podcasts hosts I listen to all the time, introduced me to the question. I love reflecting and sharing what’s saving my life in the season I’m in. So here are the things saving my life right now.

Planned Outings

With kids out of school and often stating “I’m bored,” having planned outings with friends and their kids helps alleviate that nagging statement and gives us all a fun experience. Sometimes we do things on our own which makes it more memorable as time together.

Roadtrips

There’s nothing like a good roadtrip to brighten your day. We recently took a day trip to see Lincoln’s home and museum in Springfield, Illinois as a family.  Earlier this week I drove to southern Illinois to visit a friend and her kids at a park. When driving for any long distance I make sure the kids have things to keep them occupied, pick out some playlists and podcasts and load up on snacks. It’s fun to discover new places plus have the ability to sleep in your own bed at night.

Doonails

I had been a frequent Olive and June user of their nail polishes. I love the vast and fun assortment of colors, but as quickly as I painted them within a day (or two) my polish would chip. Wanting a way to make my nails pretty without having to go to a salon, I began trying Doonails. I quickly realized this is what I’ve been wanting! The nails are made of soft gel that move with my natural nail, are easy to put on and adhere for a week without need to reapply anything. Removal is easy and doesn’t destroy my natural nails which is great. If you click here you’ll get $15 off toward your Doonails.

Coffee Ice

The summer heat often has me turning to iced lattes and cold brew. I take the extra coffee from my morning (yes I still drink hot in the morning most days) and pour into an ice tray. When I’m ready for cold coffee and making from home, having coffee cubes on home allows me to have a non watered down coffee drink!

Summer Favorites

Summer isn’t complete without barbecue, corn on the cob, peaches, watermelon and ice cream! Having a gas grill makes it easy for me to take over grilling. Having a produce stand nearby allows me to keep stocked of local tomatoes, peaches and watermelon. My husband has already made homemade ice cream once and hope we’ll do it again! Summer isn’t the same without the food.

Slower Weekends

Summer is slower for my business which gives me slower weekends. Playing board games as a family, reading for hours, going on day trips and catching up on chores are just a few things that I enjoy doing when I don’t have
