Spring Style Tips | St. Louis Photographer

Warmer temperatures and spring blooms announce the beginning of outdoor sessions! It’s a beautiful time of year to capture moments outdoors, but sometimes there can be a little apprehension on what to wear. Here are a few ideas on what to wear to your spring photoshoot and knock it out with your spring style!

Layers add warmth + functionality

While it’s warmer, it might still be breezy or even a little chilly during your session. Wearing a light sweater or cardigan, can provide not only warmth but also can provide variety in your images. Take it off briefly for some shots then put it back on. If your kids are chilly but their jackets are really bright, you might opt for a neutral blanket to bring, which can provide a great prop too!

Dresses – A spring style staple

Dresses for women are the most flattering and photograph beautifully. Many mid-length dresses (my favorite!) have beautiful movement that provide any extra touch of grace and elegance. The longer dresses may be more comfortable during spring.

Wear neutral or soft colors

Wearing neutral or soft colors will help coordinate well with your backgrounds of spring blooms. Coordinate with the others in your session by choosing a few colors that look nice together and add some patterns to add depth. When coordinating my own family’s outfits, I choose my dress and then find coordinating colors for the rest.

If you don’t love it, don’t wear it

I always say that the camera will capture if you’re comfortable or not. If you see the spring trend for athletic prep but would feel super uncomfortable, don’t wear it! Ice blue doesn’t look good on you? Don’t wear that color. Find things that you feel beautiful and comfortable in!

I hope these ideas were helpful as you begin to plan your spring photoshoot!
