From the flurry of back to school and the end of summer, autumn comes in like a breath of fresh air (I’m hoping it’ll be crisp soon!) Alongside my favorite season however, comes the busyness that is the life of a photographer. It’s a reality that I’ve come to accept and embrace. Today I’m sharing with you some of the things that are saving my life in this season that is fall.
Looking ahead at the next step
Weekends during the fall are jammed packed with sessions, family events and time at church and in ministry. Finding some time on Friday to mentally prepare for all the activity allows me to walk through the schedule. This “next step” look to the weekend has been a game changer and I often do it throughout my week so I’m ready for the next day.
Not procrastinating when it comes to editing
Connecting with others through photography is the delight of the job for me. Little connection is made for this extraverted lady when I edit, so it’s something I usually sit on until it has to be done. I’m being intentional to get the edits done in the season quickly so that sessions don’t pile up. This has been such a life saver, guaranteeing I’m delivering to clients in a timely manner.
Quiet moments in the morning
Honestly I’m most alive in the morning so getting up before anyone else in the house starts my day with intention and delight. I feel most like myself that I can enjoy reading, journaling and a cup of coffee before the kids stir.
Art class work time
My kids have started taking an art class and have found the extra work time to be a blessing. I can return emails, do some edits, plan out some social posts while my kids are creative. It’s a win-win in my book!
One-on-one time with kids
As a homeschool mom I’m with my kids most hours of the day. Two evenings a week, each kid has a separate event to attend. My husband and I decided we would take turns each week taking them to their outings while the other stays home with the other child. So far, it’s given us each separate time with our kids one-on-one and has been a fun experience.
