Ioana Cristina Casapu wrote, “There is truly no other place beating so much love as airports.” Airports are a place where people leave loved ones and a place where people return to loved ones. The best part is when a person is reunited with their loved ones, especially when it’s been a long time coming.
Alyssa contacted me as her husband was nearing his return from a deployment. 198 days might not seem like a long time, but when you’re missing the one you love, it’s an eternity. After a couple weeks of communicating via email about date possibilities, the date and flight were confirmed and the countdown was on!
I met Alyssa and her three boys at the arrival gate where they would soon be reunited with their husband/dad. The two older boys and mom were dressed as super heroes while the youngest had an adorable shirt displaying his love for his dad. Alyssa quickly told the boys to get out their homemade signs so people walking past wouldn’t have to guess she was dressed as Super Woman! As they began to receive text messages from Matthew, the anticipation continued to build until they at last saw him walking through the gate. The oldest, eager for a hug, ran to his dad and embraced in a hug that brought tears to my eyes. His younger brother quickly followed suite and after a kiss between mom and dad, the family of five joined together in a long group hug. Reunited at last!
