When Tia Frey contacted me about wanting to gift her mom, Tashi, a session, I was super excited! Not only would my studio sessions fit perfectly, it had been a while since I had captured moments for the Frey family. (Read about their last session here).
The ladies arrived at the studio a few minutes early with their chauffeur/dad/husband Matt in tow. I learned that this was mainly a mom and daughter session. He would pop in for a few though. Both daughters were eager to get shots taken with their lovely mother.
I showed off the lifestyle studio to the family and they quickly fell in love. Matt and Tashi talked about how they could either live in the country or the city – there would be no middle road. Throughout our time together, we caught up and learned what each daughter had planned next. I learned Tia is complete with school and Mikailah is finishing up her internship.
While some might think photographers have to work harder to get smiles with a younger family, it can just be as tricky with a family with adult children. Prompts such as “Tickle fight!” or “Who has the stinkiest feet?,” just doesn’t land the same. Making sure I can give direction clearly to the family with adult kids to ensure great photos is important to me. Clearly they all understood my directions. I captured some great moments, even letting Matt pop in from time-to-time!
It was neat to see how both daughters easily talked with their mom and got along with each other. My favorite shot was the candid shots taken at the fireplace from the vantage point of the mirror. As a mom with elementary aged kids, it was neat to see a different stage of motherhood and their are strong lifelong bonds formed in a family.
