What’s Saving My Life: Summer Edition | St. Louis Photographer

Summer is in full swing and it definitely has a vibe that accompanies it. Less planned; more impromptu. Enjoying the longer days and warmer weather taking in nature, dining alfresco and having fun with friends and family. Honestly this season has been a hard one for me – not the carefree ones of summers past, but as I reflected on summer so far, I wanted to share a few things that are saving my life.

Water cooler

On one of those hot days of summer I met a friend and her kids at Faust Park and she mentioned she had plenty of cold water to refill our water bottles. Her solution to make sure everyone was hydrated was a five-gallon water cooler filled with ice water. I took her idea and a couple days later found a water cooler on Marketplace. Our three-gallon cooler perfectly fits our family of four! I’ve taken it on two road trips and it’s been a game changer. We have plenty of cold water and don’t have to worry about packing extra water bottles.

Social posting

We weren’t very far into summer and I felt completely overwhelmed with family life and trying to balance the fun and business posts. I decided to limit posting to Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week and have enjoyed the extra margin I’ve received.

Coffee cubes

Wanting iced coffee without a water downed drink, I’ve come to the best conclusion: coffee cubes. These are things of beauty that ice my latte or cold brew but don’t diminish the flavor. I usually pour extra morning coffee in a ice tray that I specifically bought for my coffee cubes. It’s one of my favorite things about summer!

Friends

As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, this season has been a hard one. From my Grandmother passing away to uncertainty about a diagnoses of loved ones, I have found myself in a funk. Having friends who have often checked in on me, allowed me to cry, share vulnerably and not judge has been tremendous support for me.

Blackberry picking

My husband’s grandparents have blackberry bushes in their backyard and since we’ve married I’ve been invited to pick (and eat!) This routine of picking blackberries with my kids while listening to an audiobook or music has been life giving in this season.

There you have it, five things that are saving my life this summer. I love how this list is an assortment of big and small things! I would invite you to list some of the things saving your life and comment with one or two things saving your life.
