I drove up to St. Charles last Saturday to capture some precious moments of a dear friends and their newest bundle of joy. When I got to the door, the oldest sister and aspiring photographer, quickly opened the door and invited me in, eager for the photo session. It had been a while since I saw the Althage family and I could see how the girls had grown and become doting big sisters to their baby brother. I can’t wait to see the bond that will develop with the three Althage kids as the years progress! The session included capturing photos of the family of five, siblings, and shots of the parents with their baby boy.
There’s just something magical about capturing a family in the simplicity of their own home. There’s a familiarity and comfort that puts kids at ease and allows them to invite me into their domain. I get the opportunity to capture moments and document their life like a fly on the wall. Like photographer Elliott Erwitt once said, “To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place.” I couldn’t agree more.
