A Little Byrdie Told Me | Four Reasons to Consider a Lifestyle Session

Lifestyle sessions aren’t only for the rich or famous, who have gorgeous spaces in which they can get perfect photos. Usually taken inside the home, they are the perfect occasion for your family to have an enjoyable time and be captured in the most natural and candid ways. Here are four ideas to think about when considering a lifestyle session.

“Lifestyle photography is a kind of photography that mainly aims to capture portrait/people in situations, real-life events or milestones in an artistic manner and the art of the everyday.”

While lifestyle sessions are done at home, your family is in their element. There isn’t any tension or nerves from your children because they are uncomfortable in a new setting. I’m the guest, not them. I’ve noticed that kids warm up to me and my camera quicker and are eager to show me their favorite toy, activity or place to play.

“If your pictures aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough.”

No need to clean

Most moms tend to freak when someone is coming over and I’m sure that panic intensifies when someone is coming…with a camera. There is no need to have everything clean and tidy. Lifestyle sessions normally center around a place where the family is together. Whether that’s the living room couch, the dining room table or kitchen counter, other areas are out of frame and out of view. Have some laundry in a basket? It can be moved. Have some toys on the floor? That might be the perfect starting point to get the kids comfortable around me and my camera.

“In the world of photography, you get to share a captured moment with other people.”

I take a mixture of posed and candid shots during any session, but during a lifestyle session these candid moments are intensified. Some of these moments might include playing a game together, children playing with their favorite toys, setting up a fort, starting a tickle fight, making dinner together, enjoying a book…the moments are endless! I’m a fly on your wall capturing moments that makes your family you.

“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.”

Along with candid moments, I’ll also be able to capture tender moments between you and your family. Children are more comfortable and eager to capture hugs from you in their favorite chair as they normally would. Mom and dad, this isn’t just tender moments between you and your kids. Imagine an image of you two cuddling on the couch as your children play on the floor…priceless!

I absolutely love capturing lifestyle sessions. It’s comfortable and authentic; simple and beautiful; timeless and flawless.

I will be hosting a Saturday of lifestyle sessions in April in a gorgeous St. Louis home.
