Last year in my goals sharing post (read here), I explained that I am a dreamer. While I like to dream, I also like to have some tangible goals to set for myself personally and my business. I’m now in my eighth year of Rare Vision being a full-fledged business and one thing I continually find as true is that goals are a little nebulous. I can set goals for Rare Vision but often they are out of my control and in the hands of my clients. Will I book 10 new clients? Will I get to capture a birth? That all depends on who hires me and tells their friends.
I decided to pull up last year’s goals and take a look at the dreams I had for 2024 to see if any became reality. I was happy to see that many of them, in fact, became reality. Not only did I get to document another birth but I had the honor to capture two births in 2024. I had a great time with Emily in her senior session on the Downtown Riverfront capturing her personality including her motorcycle. I got to help two nonprofits, Cure Sanfilippo Foundation and The Bennett Project. While I didn’t hit my goal of 10 new clients, I did meet six new families and capture moments for them. While some of the goals were a little arbitrary and fell to the wayside, I say I’m proud of the successful year I had!
Now onto 2025 Dreams!
Henry David Thoreau said, “If you have built castles in the air, your need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.” I’m beginning to build the foundations under those dreams that I have for Rare Vision. Here are some of the goals I have for 2025:
- Reach 1,200 followers on Facebook and 500 followers on Instagram.
- Capture moments for 10 new clients.
- Document one birth this year.
- Document a “day in the life” for an entrepreneur.
- Document a family’s day.
- Document a special event.
- Post three times a month on Pinterest.
- Help promote other mompreneuers.
- Help a nonprofit or ministry with images.
A chunk of these goals include the word “document.” Merging my storytelling background with photography, documentary photography is an aspect of my business that has become more visible to me over the years. I’m excited to delve more into this storytelling magic. As Denzel Washington once said, “Dreams without goals are just dreams.” I’m putting together plans to make these dreams reality.
